I took two classic books and redesigned their covers in specific design styles. I considered important pieces and scenes in the book and what can be expanded on.
With the cover for Diary of a Madman and Other Stories by Lu Xun, I took heavy inspiration from vintage Chinese horror. The context of the story and the use of the style of German Expressionism went hand to hand. Mainly, focusing on the painting style of German Expressionism. I created vector illustrations of faces, hallways and used colors that matched the style I was going with.
Memoirs of a Geisha book cover I tried out the style of Russian Constructivism since a piece of the story I picked up on was the handkerchief symbolism. In this style, symbolism drives it and made me realize how it can work with the story. Took a photo of a hand with handkerchief and added a black and white filter and grain. Made shapes that matched Russian Constructivism and colors as well.
